UCLA scoring of Total Lab Automation: Early March 2020
Question 1: Is UCLA performing transfusion screening today? If yes, what exactly is UCLA planning to screen for with the instrument that attaches to the automation line? If no, is UCLA considering performing transfusion testing?
UCLA Health Response: In regards to blood typing and antibody screens, yes. UCLA plans to screen for blood types, antibody screens, antigen testing, and titer testing.
Question 2: Where does UCLA currently get their blood from?
UCLA Health Response: Approximately 70% from our UCLA Blood & Platelet Center and the remainder with American Red Cross.
Question 3: Blood Bank - do you have a list of instruments UCLA is interested in connecting to TLA?
UCLA Health Response: UCLA Health is re-evaluating their blood bank instrumentation and would like to know if connections would be available to Immucor, Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, and Grifols instruments.
Question 4: C3, C4, and MMB (Mass CKMB) testing volumes seem to be missing. Could you please advise regarding these assays in preparation for the final proposal?
UCLA Health Response: For clarification, complement tests C3 and C4 are combined under the test name "Complement Ag". The split/ratio between the two is approximately 50% for each. The volume of CKMB is 345 for all sites for July thru September 2019. The test is only performed at Santa Monica. Please see tab SMH - row 40 on your "Copy of TLA Quarterly Test Volume Review_2019 All Sites for Vendors_010820" spreadsheet.
Question 5: Could you advise why some tests, currently being run at the various lab sites, are missing from their facility list?
UCLA Health Response: Please note that not all UCLA Health Pathology and Lab Medicine tests will be a part of the total lab automation initiative, even if these are available on your respective platforms. Thus, please compose your proposal and presentation based on the previously provided spreadsheet, "Copy of TLA Quarterly Test Volume Review_2019 All Sites for Vendors_010820".
